Most of this collection is comprised of household and personal bills, various types of railroad passes, visiting and reward of merit cards, family letters, diaries of Rachel Latta, and architectural drawings, photographs, and legal documents relating to "Grey Arches" and its greenhouse. The bills were for clothing, funeral expenses, food, pharmaceutical items, house furnishings, and general upkeep of the house. The railroad passes were for baggage, transportation, and telegraph privileges. A ticket to the Republican Convention of 1900 is also included. Many of the letters were sent from the Latta children to their father, mother, Aunt Gertie, or Santa Claus, between 1899 and 1919. Another series of letters was sent from William Latta, Jr. to his father and sisters during his tour of duty on Sub Chaser 212 during and after World War I. Rachel Latta's diaries cover the year 1904 and 1910 through 1914. She describes her life as a young woman in Maine, Chestnut Hill, and Westover School in Middlebury, Ct. Also featured are details of her trip to the St. Louis Exposition. The architectural drawings include elevations of "Grey Arches"; proposed additions to both the house and greenhouse; floor plans; blueprints of the property and plans of the grounds; and a pencil drawing of a plan for a log cabin. Photographs show the interior and exterior of "Grey Arches." These Latta papers also include catalogs from the sale of William J. Latta's collection of items relating to Napoleon Bonaparte, held in April and November of 1913 at the Anderson Galleries in New York City. His collection included letters, bronzes, portraits, caricatures, mezzotints, memoirs, and other documents regarding the French leader. As well, there is a catalog of the books in William J. Latta's private library.

William J. Latta was born on Nov. 21, 1852 in Chester County, Pa. His father, Dr. William Sutton Latta (1822-1872), was the first surgeon of the Pennsylvania Railroad.
